Dutch theater maker and performer Merel Severs graduated as an actress from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht in 2013. She worked with various artists and companies including Khadija El Kharraz Alami, Mart van Berckel and Sander Breure & Witte van Hulst. From 2012 to 2018 she worked with the international company Troubleyn/Jan Fabre where she resigned due to transgressive behavior in and around the workplace. In 2020 she made her debut as a maker with the solo: Let me tell you something you already know. With it she won the Best of Fringe 2020.
Her work is personal, confrontational, and blood honest. She has a great ability to bring uncomfortable themes into the limelight with humor. And she has a great fondness for unmasking that which everyone likes to keep hidden. Cooperation and exchange are central to her work, because it is precisely by exchanging different perspectives that we broaden our frames of reference. This is how she is part of Studio-BAM. An Amsterdam-based collaborative studio she shares with makers and performers Annica Muller, Milou van Duijnhoven and Barnaby Savage.
